On the road

Training should be in full swing for Tour De Lauder, but a combination of factors has led to rides being short in distance and sporadic in frequency, so it’s been mostly getting through Tom Danielson’s Core Advantage

It’s no substitute for getting out in the fresh air and turning some pedals, but it keeps things ticking over and a sedentary lifestyle at bay.

With the BCR Paris-Roubaix get together this week, there’s been a lot of watching and talking about cycling for me recently, but not a lot of actually doing it. Something that will need to be rectified quickly.

Listening to

Daphne and Celeste – Alarms

Yes, for those enough lucky to be around in the ’90’s, it’s that Daphne and Celeste.
The girls who stuck the proverbial two fingers up to Reading Festival organisers, and a baying crowd, in 2000, by gutting out a performance in a hail of bottles, beer, and bodily fluids, and showing everyone what rock ‘n’ roll is really about when booked to play the main stage before Blink 182, Rage Against The Machine and Slipknott, have a new album out.

The girls who brought you “Oooh, stick you…” and “U.G.L.Y” are back with a full album written and produced by electronic musician and remixer, Max Tundra.

Sneaky-genius pop magic!

Reading

Hellhound on His Trail by Hampton Sides

April 4th saw the 50th anniversary of the assasination of Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
This book tells the story of the events that led up to his death and the hunt for his killer.

A gripping read, which goes in to exhaustive detail, it’s up there with In Cold Blood by Truman Capote as one of the best examples of the crime history genre.

Drinking

Txakoli

With the 2018 Tour of the Basque Country, or Itzulia as it’s now known, just finished with a win for the Slovenian, Primoz Roglic, what better time to try some Basque wine.

Txakoli is a super-dry, super-light, slightly sparkling wine, with realtively low alcohol content and plenty of acidic citrus flavours.
I first had it in London restaurant, The Palomar, where it suited their light Spanish, African and Middle-Eastern inspired dishes perfectly.
It’s obviously best paired with pintxos, but would go well with any fish or rice dish.
